Tarot Cards for the Times

I am feeling, like many others, the collective weight of the darkness that emanates from people in positions of power and influence: in government, Hollywood, etc…And my disgust and disdain has reached a tipping point. As the current chaos continues, I pray for a dismantling, rebuilding and healing.

The current climate can be compared to several cards from the Tarot. As a tarot reader, I often visualize various cards to describe a situation or period of time. Recently and often, I find myself muttering,“We are in the time of the Tower.” The Tower card in tarot represents the collapse of structures built on weak foundations, lies or denial. There’s a crack that weakens the entire structure, and it has slowly corroded and is beginning to break apart. What has been built upon a faulty foundation will eventually fracture and result in a necessary transformation and restructuring.

The Devil card is also making its appearance. Symbolically, the Devil, in the Rider Waite Tarot, represents the illusion of power. I refer to him as the ‘monster under the bed that’s not really there, but feels really real card.’ It eludes to the idea of keeping one confined to the chains of restriction they impose on themselves through various types of addiction(s). In other words, the ways in which we knowingly and unknowingly give our power away to a person, place or thing. The Devil is an illusion, though. Fear of the dark energy is the dark energy. Fear is created the moment we believe something outside of us has power over us. And we all know how paralyzing fear can feel. It terrifies you until you turn the light on. This card is your dealer of all things that will strip your personal power away in exchange for some relief from this world. Within the image of the card, you’ll see two people with chains around their necks, keeping them ‘locked’ into the illusions of the Devil. What’s more important to notice, is that the chains are actually loose and the figures on the card can and have the free will to remove them. The power is ultimately yours to decide and then take action on. The fear that keeps you chained in old ways, doesn’t benefit you and it prevents you from fully realizing you have different options. Sadly, we are sold these illusions all day, every day. Your social media accounts will bring you more suffering than dealing with what you’re avoiding in the first place. Your inner healing and self love will not come from pharmaceuticals and shots. What is outside of you is fleeting. However, we are in an awakening and in an intuitive movement. Collectively, we are turning the light on and illuminating the facade. We are facing the monster under the bed. We are taking the power back. We need to take our very own power back, to hold people accountable and to become accountable for ourselves. Your joy, your healing, your circumstances, your body, you control that. Protect your peace, health and heart and all costs. Lift the heavy chains from around your neck. It’s an illusion that you can’t.

And lastly, the Star tarot card. Suffering sometimes feels punitive, unjust, and cruel at times. But there is a gift, even if hard to comprehend, in difficult and painful times. The Star is a welcome reprieve offering hope and a softer place to land. It offers a sense of support, groundedness, emotional healing and balance. The Star encourages a time of personal growth a reflection that usually comes after hardship.

My hope for you is that you will take the action to audit your life and find the energy leaks and power dynamics that are self-imposed or imposed upon you. I hope you will feel empowered to call your energy back in during a time it’s so desperately needed.
